She WANTED It.

This is one of the sickest things I have read in quite some time. I am so angry after reading this story, I can barely type, or string a coherent thought together to put down here, so I apologize if this post is a little disjointed.

The parents of a severely disabled young woman are suing the Colorado Springs school district over a sexual assault against their daughter, which occurred on school property during school hours.

The assault occurred in September of 2004. The girl, Kalie McArthur is now 20, so her parents have given permission for the media to use her name. She has an IQ of about 50; the equivalent of your average four-year old.

Her assailant was at the time, a 15-year old boy. He was assigned as a "peer trainer," which is a convenient way for the school to claim that the disabled children are getting individual attention and being properly supervised, when they clearly are not. The boy had a 0.0 grade point average. (I'm not kidding. Zero.) He had been suspended 2o times in the previous year. He was also not screened or trained, and was left unsupervised with Kalie; the school can make no definitive account of exactly how much time he spent with her. Kalie's parents were not informed about the "peer trainer" being responsible for their daughter.

A school coach found the pair partially unclothed in a closet on Sept. 14th, 2004. She suffered bruising during the assault, so we know the boy was, shall we say... Unnecessarily rough. The boy pled guilty to unlawful sexual contact with a helpless victim last year. Kalie said that other boys groped her before the assault in question, but that hasn't led to anything on a legal level.

That takes care of the criminal act of the boy who was caught. (Sort of; I'd have him flogged within an inch of his life.) The family then files civil charges against the city school district for their flaming negligence.

Here is where your head will blow right off of your shoulders.

Colorado Springs School District has refused mediation in the civil suit. They hired their own "expert" to review the case, who said that Kalie, who you will remember has the mental capability of a four year old, found the assault, and I QUOTE, "pleasurable, not traumatic. It ignited her female desires."

Oh, what happened to this disabled girl is OK, because she WANTED IT. I am so angry and sickened, I could vomit! Will we be hearing from NOW? I doubt it. I suppose that rapists can start using this argument to defend themselves. Why not? She might have said no, but she didn't mean it!

Unfortunately for the family, Kalie will not longer allow males to partake in her care, and has become increasingly aggressive towards men. Before the assault, she could participate in group activities, but now requires one-on-one care with a highly trained female care giver. This has caused the expense of her care to skyrocket, and because the school didn't reasonably try to prevent her assault, the family holds them responsible for defraying the cost of her changed needs.

Of course, they don't want to pony up and take responsibility for their negligence.

This is deplorable enough in and of itself, but to suggest that they shouldn't pay because she liked it? There's a special place in Hell for these folks.

Our society has just last year starved to death a mentally disabled woman, because "she wouldn't want to live that way." Will we now as a society give the OK for the disabled to be raped?

A society can be judged by how it treats those who are truly the weakest amongst them, and I'm not speaking of criminals or drug addicts: those who say they are mentally weak in order to avoid punishment for their crimes. I am speaking of the truly disabled, and the children; those who cannot defend themselves.

How will we be judged?
