Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said yesterday that he has given the go-ahead for a shipment of weapons to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.The PA is currently engaged in infighting with militant Hamas, with casualties on both sides.
"I authorized last night the transfer of arms and ammunition to chairman Abu Mazen in order to strengthen his presidential guard, so he can strengthen his forces against Hamas," Olmert said, referring to Abbas by his widely-used nickname.
"I did this because we are running out of time and we need to help Abu Mazen," Olmert told said at a meeting with members of Britain's Parliament.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, huh?
The arms shipment includes 375 rifles and ammo, and comes on the heels of Olmert's explanation of plans to pull out of most of the West Bank if peace cannot be hammered out with the Palestinians.
So... Giving the enemy weaponry after making public announcements of... Well, basically of surrender if the PA sticks to it's newly acquired guns? It almost makes me think that Israel is it's own worst enemy.
