Tax 'em ALL.

Some of you may recall a post I put up a while back about Julie Murphy, a seven-year-old little girl with a lemonade stand which the government tried to shut down because she didn't get a permit.

Well, it seems our government overlords are at it again. Big brother wants his tax money, and he doesn't care if you're a four-year-old little girl or a six-year-old little boy.

LEWISTON, Idaho (The Blaze/AP) — An Idaho family that operates a roadside pumpkin stand is scared out of its gourd after a state tax collector showed up and tried to squash the business.
The Lewiston Tribune reports the Idaho State Tax Commission has called for the closure of a family’s pumpkin stand in Lewiston, a mill city along the Snake and Clearwater rivers.
Dan and Kami Charais told the newspaper that a Tax Commission employee informed them the stand was in violation of laws and had to shut its doors.
The couple says their 4- and 6-year-old children had been carving out a niche for themselves in the local jack-o-lantern market — to raise money for school sports, they say.
A Tax Commission representative told the newspaper that even goods sold at roadside stands are taxable and that the stand did not have a proper permit.

What's next? Permits to have a yard sale? Where does it end? Is there no aspect of our lives that the government won't intrude upon?

One small example of how government policy prevents people from taking care of themselves.

Our economy would be booming if you could start a business without consulting a team of lawyers and having to jump through a thousand flaming bureaucratic hoops.

Maybe I'm being facetious but did this dude have a warrant to come on their property to see if they had a permit? Government officials cannot just run over people, even those smaller than them.

Great points, both of you.

I am so fed up. It's surreal, how they tread on us now. Even children?!?

We are no better than subjects.

This tax obsession is beyond surreal.

A seasonal roadside stand is NOT a business, for pity's sake, and shouldn't require a Schedule C.

BTW, those who have frequent yard sales in Northern Virginia must obtain a permit.

The only reason that yard sales are not taxes is that, overall, the proceeds are exceeded by the cost of goods.

Angel: Agreed!

AOW: Are you KIDDING me?!? A YARD SALE requires a permit? I can see perhaps a flea market stand, ect...

*sigh* I am loathe to say it, but I am growing more and more hateful and resentful of this so-called 'government.'

We are living in interesting times and that's not meant in a good way.

Well, no WONDER they're in trouble under this WH...teaching CAPITALISM TO CHILDREN?
They're lucky they're not in jail NOW.

If I owe this year I will be demanding an investigation be opened on exactly WHY I owe. If it doesn't come out in MY favor, I will be invoking the Sixteenth Amendment.

Cube: Agreed.

Z: Bwaahhaaahaaa! Indeed!

Steve: Good luck with that. King Obama can simply change the rules and we all know how little he regards the Constitution.

Everyday and in every way the United States creeps closer and closer to Fascism in all levels of government. When I was a kid and we did roadside stands, no one bothered us. A government employee doing such a thing would have been disciplined or discharged. At the very least they would have undergone such withering condemnation in the community that they would be forced to back peddle. But not any more. In the "government knows best" of today's America, we have a Bureaucratic Class devoid of common sense. Everyone must abide by a plethora of rules, because they want you dependent on them. Unless of course you are a liberal Democrat and the rules are impeding the agenda or your personal gain. Then the rules are unfair and can be ignored.
