We had a party last night for about 25 - 30 teenagers. They had a great time. Now is the joy of motivating my teenagers to clean the garage and backyard today.
My wife and I already got started, now that all the kids are out of the house. We've been maxing out on the Hammer film series about Dracula and Frankenstein and the Mummy featuring the stalwarts of horror Peter (Governor Tarkin) Cushing and Christopher (Count Dookoo/Sauromon)Lee. When we were teens, they seemed so intense and gory. Now they're just funny. No chocolates though, just some wine and popcorn.
"Cube said... So many new horror movies are all about gore and boobs. Not scary in the least."
I agree. It seems like the transition came in the late 70s with the "Halloween" "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" franchises getting underway. Then, incredibly, it got even worse than those. You always knew that the slutty, nubile teen who flashed her boobs was going to the be first to get decapitated or gutted alive.
No sense of suspense, nothing left to the imagination. Just blood & guts gory spatter, ala Quinten Tarentino or Rob Zombie. Hitchcock was the master and no one has been able to carry his torch. "The Birds" and "Psycho" still kind of bother me when I watch them. The others are just boring or repulsive at best.
Angel: I wouldn't know ANYTHING about a Snickers going missing from the kid's pail... Heh.
Cube: I totally agree. Gore isn't scary, its just gross and inhumane.
Gator: Indeed.
Zombies movies are just the worst; totally unwatchable. They are devoid of plot and exist only to tear humans apart for no real reason. I can take implied gore, or some gore that actually serves a plot point, but the gratuitous stuff is a turn off.
I haven't watched Psycho in quite awhile. I always thought that Perkins was kinda hot, too. :)

I like some of those old, corny movies for Halloween. Bride of Frankenstein, maybe.
Don't forget to VOTE to RESTORE SANITY in Washington DC this Tuesday!
Chuck: I don't envy you that task. I have a hard enough time motivating my nine and seven and five year olds to clean anything!
Gator: Wine and popcorn is exactly our plan for tonight, after the kids go to bed. That, and some corny movies...
AOW: And as far as movies go, the original Night of the Living Dead is a must. I hold that it is a far more frightening movie than most out there.
Speedy: Thanks for coming by!
chocolate..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! (Halloween hugsssss!)
