Prayers Needed!

I just heard this morning about my brother:

Info on Jason... He is in a local hospitals' ICU with pancreatitis, kidney failure, enlarged spleen and liver, and diabetic ketoacidosis. They have him sedated, intubated, and on IV insulin. They have called in specialists from Dayton. The next 12 hours are critical.

Jason and I are half-siblings; we have the same father and he is only six years older than I am. He's 38. He and his wife just had a baby about three weeks ago.

Thank you, all.

They have his triglycerides down somewhat, and are starting dialysis.

Hopefully, these are all steps in the right direction.

Thank you, Gator.

I saw Jason yesterday; I will go back later today. I've worked in the ER for years, and covered a few shifts in the ICU as a nurse aide. Although I'm not a 'pro', I know a lot of terminology and what to expect.

It was absolutely surreal to see my brother like that.

Jason has a bit of pneumonia. Once that is resolved, they are going to try to wean him from the ventilator and extubate him, providing blood gases and such are in normal levels.

He is on a 24-hour 'soft' dialysis, as his blood pressure is not stable enough to handle regular dialysis. They hope to switch him once it is. Also, his kidneys are putting out a tiny amount of urine, which is a step in the right direction.

I hope that, in the next two to four days they may be able to wake him.

Update from FB:

Sunday 9:27AM...An xray of Jason's chest last night showed that there is more fluid in his lungs. They came in this morning to do an xray of his abdomen and are sending him down for a cat scan to make sure he doesnt have an abscess from the pancreatitis. They may not have the results until tomorrow, but if he does have an abscess, they will take him to surgery to remove it. The doctors think this might be what is causing his temperature to go back up. Please keep praying! Please also pray for Jen and the kids - today is Colin's birthday (his 4-year-old). Thanks.

(Colin is his now 4 y.o son.)

AND:

They are not taking him down for the cat scan after all - the GI doctor is worried that the contrast may cause more damage to his kidneys. They also just said that his triglycerides are back up to over 1000 so they are calling the Dayton team back in. I'm headed back up there now. Please continue to pray.

Jason is now extubated! As long as he can keep his BP up, anyway; if it dips critically low again he will have to be re-intubated.

He is trying, at times, to open his eyes. We don't know if it's a response to pain or if he's having fleeting moments of consciousness.

Brooke, I'm sorry to hear about your brother's condition. I will add him and his family to my ever-expanding list of prayers. Thank goodness God has big ears.

From Jason's mom:

Update - Monday 12:00 pm. A couple of doctors just stopped by with some encouraging news - if they can get him on regular dialysis (possibly tomorrow), the kidney doctor thinks his kidneys may fully recover. It will take some time, he even mentioned a couple of weeks, but at least he gave some hope. Of course, this is contingent on his blood pressure. The hospital doctor said the confusion and inability to communicate clearly will probably take another 24 hours - it's very frustrating for Jason but at least we have hope it will pass. He is running another fever, but is on antibiotics - they're keeping a close eye on him. Just waiting for them to take him down for the cat scan then we'll go from there. Please keep praying. He especially needs prayer against the high triglycerides, which start this all. Thanks!
