Miserable Weekend.

Between my work schedule and the mutha of all weekends, I haven't posted or made rounds for a little while. Perhaps tomorrow after Connor's doctor appt.

This Saturday, I was t-boned by a hit and run driver in a pickup truck and her 'guy'; the former was driving under suspension and without insurance. The latter had warrants and ran on foot. Fortunately, the police caught them both. They'd ran the red light.

After lying repeatedly to the police and me, they hauled her off. I later found out that the pickup didn't belong to them. We have no idea yet if the owner has insurance.

I am OK, just sore.

Here's the damage:

You can't see it well from here, but my wheel is caved in at about a 45 degree angle. The door was wedged shut, so I had to crawl out the passenger side. Thankfully, the window was down so I didn't get shards of flying glass. Since I bounced off a curb, the opposite wheel is also askew, though not as badly.

Curiously, the airbag did not deploy.

Extreme close up: That is a shard from their truck stuck in my door.

Thankfully, even though we'd paid the car off and I wanted liability, Dave insisted on keeping full coverage. We just got a rental car, and are waiting for the insurance company to make the call; the car could be fixed, but it would cost more than 60% or so of it's value to do so, so it may be totaled out.

Then, to make matters worse, on top of being sore on Sunday I ran a fever and couldn't keep any thing down!

Dave took care of me all weekend and took Monday off to deal with all the insurance calls, and it was a full-time job! I love my husband! :)

Things are starting to look up now, though.

Oh, Brooke!

As one who was permanently injured when I was rear-ended at a 4-way stop sign, my heart goes out to you.

I, too, was ill at the time and counting the days until the necessary d&c.

I hope that you're okay. Obviously, you car is not!

Glad you're OK Brooke. Were they "Undocumented Drivers"? I hope you pressure the DA to throw the book at them.

Jeeze, I will never complain about my weekend again.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, AOW! I'm sorry you were permanently injured. Your back, right?

I'm fine, now. The car took all the damage, fortunately.

Odie: They were known petty thieves in the area, but 'undocumented,' no.

I hope they get the book thrown at them, too, and they may because technically it was a hit and run. He ran, she pulled about a block away and parked in a lot where she couldn't be seen. Fortunately, the local folks caught her sorry ass before the cops arrived. I may get a summons.

USA: LOL! Thanks!

Wowsers. Better that the car took the damage than you, but sorry that it happened nonetheless. It's amazing how many of the auto 'accidents' we have are caused uninsured drivers, people with suspended licenses or people that have other warrants or are illegal aliens. Carelessness and lawlessness and lack of personal responsibility all go hand in hand.

Yikes! Thank goodness the car took the brunt of that and not you. I'm surprised the airbag didn't go off too. You may have to bring up that little fact with the manufacturer.

Hope you're feeling better today.

Gator: Indeed. We are STILL waiting to hear if the actual owner of the pickup was insured; still also waiting to hear if our car would be totaled.

The morons who hit me are a case study in irresponsibility and petty criminality. Not even the prospect of possibly seriously injuring another human being will turn them around, I bet.

Cube: Thanks. We just may ask about that... I suspect it is because the car did not come with side airbags? Still, the speeds involved SHOULD have set them off nonetheless.

I've heard of airbags deploying when people hit a curb hard enough. I agree that you should look into why yours did not deploy.

Just got a call from the co-signer of the pickup. I wasn't home, so it's voice mail, but apparently the truck has liability, at least.

Guess what. On Friday the 23rd, my youngest daughter rear-ended another driver and neither one of their airbags deployed. Not surpising because there was minimal damage.

I guess if you're going to get into an accident, this was the kind to get into...
