Nerds Unite

Sorry I haven't been around a lot this week, but that pesky job thing keeps getting in the way. I'm on my way to work right now, another 12 hours, but here's a quickie I just had to post about.

I'm sure most people that read this site are familiar with the Westboro Baptist Church freak jobs. They like to tell people how much God hates them and protest at fallen soldier's funerals.

Well, they've decided to protest Comic-Con, because apparently reading a comic book equals idol worship according to their version of the Bible.

But just like counter protest groups that keep Phelps and his freaks away from grieving soldier's families, the nerds are having none of their crap:

(See more pics here.)

I love this. Even when the Phelp's downgrade their game to comics and sci-fi, there are still people willing to not let them get away with their insanity.

Actually, it kind of reminds me of the cartoonifada. When Islamists went nuts over stick figures, where were the 'moderate' Muslims to protest?

Protesting comic books?

Some people just don't have enough to do!

Besides, if this group doesn't like particular comic books, they don't have to read them. Sheesh.

Westboro and Phelps are just plain evil, wolves in sheeps clothing.

I can remember in the 80s that they were getting fired up and appearing in our local news media.
My dad, who was a Baptist deacon, told me then everything that was wrong with them from a biblical point of view. In fact, along the way several Baptist denominations have denounced Phelps and said his "Baptist Church" has no connection at all with Baptists of any stripe.

The "church" is a cult and from what I understand, everyone in the congregation is related to Phelps by blood or through marriage. I really feel bad for the kids being reared in that environment.

The Westboro people don't play well with others. They are nasty and vile. I'm glad the ComicCon people showed the WWestboro freaks, in a humorous way, just how out of touch they are with the rest of the country.

Good to see you are all OK.

These guys at Westboro really need to get a life.

AOW: Agreed!

Gator: They are the very definition of a cult!

I was raised Southern Baptist and I can say without a doubt that these freaks wouldn't know a Baptist if one dunked them in a vat of water.

Cube: I really like how the Comic-Con dudes mocked the WBC freaks. It was deliciously funny.

I have GOT to teach my dogs to do that!

I really would love to have a pug. :)

USA: Yup, just like the Shat-man said! :)

Batman: Aye!

Thor? Thor? I was in to the Incredible Hulk myself. I had a full run of Hulk, X-Men and Fantastic Four comics going back to issues #1. Then while I was away at college, mom cleaned out my closets....:-O
