Chavez admits chewing coca 'every day in the morning'
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez chews coca on a daily basis, according to The Miami Herald.
Chavez, a vocal critic of the United States, admitted ingesting the base material for cocaine in the middle of a four-hour speech to lawmakers in Caracas. ''I chew coca every day in the morning ... and look how I am,'' Chavez said, according to the paper.
Bolivian President Evo Morales "sends me coca paste ... I recommend it to you," Chavez added.
The paper spoke with experts who said that it is illegal to consume coca paste in Venezuela and Bolivia. It's not clear to us whether Chavez was referring to "coca leaves" or "coca paste.
