Nothing to See Here... Move Along...

Nothing bad could happen with this:

President Obama has signaled that he will give the United States Commerce Department the authority over a proposed national cybersecurity measure that would involve giving each American a unique online identity. Other candidates mentioned previously to head up the new system have included the NSA and the Department of Homeland Security, but the announcement that the Commerce Department will take the job should please groups that have raised concerns over security agencies doing double duty in police and intelligence work. So anyway, what about this unique ID we'll all be getting? Well, though details are still pretty scant, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, speaking at an event at the Stanford Institute, stressed that the new system would not be akin to a national ID card, or a government controlled system, but that it would enhance security and reduce the need for people to memorize dozens of passwords online.

No, sir... I don't like this one bit.

It sounds like a sinister invasion of privacy to me.

"it would enhance security"

This, coming from the people who can't keep themselves secure from Wikileaks. What irony.

"and reduce the need for people to memorize dozens of passwords online."

That's my decision what and how many passwords to use. The only person this is convenient for is the government to track me online.

This guy sounds more and more like a Communist every day. Used to be you'd only hear stuff like this coming from the Soviet Union, China, and North Korea.

Hey America! How's that "American Idol" President working out for ya?

Here is my issue: I don't want it, I will not cooperate, and screw government who obviously can't even take care of their own security let alone botch up mine. And, who has access to my information? Someone will hack it, be rest assured.

The government can't even run the DMV efficiently. What makes anybody think they could handle this type of program?

It is blatant socialism. It is controlling who has access to what.

Some hacker would find a way to break in to such a unique online identity. And what a field day that hacker would have with all the choices available there!

Excellent comments, all!

I had a couple of long days at work...

If this is implemented, nothing good will come of it. And the silence from the MSM? No surprise there.

We already have a unique ID ... it's called a social security number. We can see how well that works.

My 10 year old grandson is currently employed in Florida and Arizona ... or at least his SSN is.
