Amnesty Bill And Nothing But.

From this source:

McLEAN, Va. — Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff on Wednesday said Republican conservatives working to block an immigration bill risk endorsing a "silent amnesty" by insisting on deportations that are "not going to happen."

Chertoff also leveled criticism at liberal immigrant rights advocates, saying they could prolong the anguish of immigrant families by withholding support for legislation that could make them legal.

So let me get this straight... The head of the department created by Pres. Bush says that there's not a snowball's chance in hell that they're going to get rid of illegals, so we may as well go ahead and legalize them?!?

(**UPDATE**

Michael Chertoff is being interviewed on the Glenn Beck Radio Program, and has called ILLEGAL ALIENS "economic migrants!"

I swear to you, my head is going to explode!!!)

Meanwhile, the GOP bickers among themselves about the bill:
WASHINGTON - The immigration fight in Congress has spilled over onto the presidential campaign trail. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) is trying to sell the skeptical GOP base on contentious Senate legislation while Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and other Republican rivals oppose it.

But who cares about what the American People have to say, right?

A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey conducted Monday and Tuesday night shows that just 26% of American voters favor passage of the legislation. Forty-eight percent (48%) are opposed while 26% are not sure.

26% in favor? Why, that's even less than the President's or Congress' approval ratings!
