Pearl Harbor Day
A little over three years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Pearl Harbor.
It was a reverent place, and an awesome experience. Below are some of the pictures that I took (click to enlarge):

I stood on that deck some 30 years ago reviewing the names of those who lost their lives on 7 Dec 1941 … and standing next to me was an older fellow who nudged me on the shoulder and, pointing to a name on the bulkhead said, “That fellow was our neighbor back home, before he joined the Navy …”
I was thunderstruck by the realization of how small our world has become! The gentleman’s comment touched me in a peculiar way; it made the attack an almost personal experience. You are right, Brooke: we must never forget. Thank you for your post today!

Mustang: I can't believe it, either. Although no one in my family that I know of died in WWII, I do have relatives I can trace to WWI (Muse-Argonne) and even the Civil War. I even have a few letters written in the hand of one of my ancestors before he perished at Ft. Jackson.
I have to say, standing there on that deck, reading the names, watching the oil STILL welling up... Wow. It does make the experience far more personal.

I have always wanted to go
Mr. AOW and I visited Pearl Harbor on our one and only extravagant vacation in 1983. We visited the harbor and Punchbowl Cemetery. However, we didn't get to stand on the deck because we hadn't made the proper arrangements in advance.

BTW, that's a wonderful video. It gave me goosebumps!
