Matt Maupin: Found

SSG Keith "Matt" Maupin's remains were found over the weekend after being MIA for four years.

From this source:

The Army didn't say how or where in Iraq his son's remains were discovered, only that the identification was made with DNA testing, Maupin said. A shirt similar to the one his son was wearing at the time of his disappearance was also found.

The Army was continuing its investigation, Maupin said.

Lt. Lee Packnett, an Army public affairs officer in Washington, said an official statement about the identification would be released Monday.

Matt Maupin was a 20-year-old private first class when he was captured April 9, 2004, after his fuel convoy, part of the Bartonville, Ill.-based 724th Transportation Company, was ambushed west of Baghdad.

A week later, the Arab television network Al-Jazeera aired a videotape showing a stunned-looking Maupin wearing camouflage and a floppy desert hat, sitting on the floor surrounded by five masked men holding automatic rifles.

That June, Al-Jazeera aired another tape purporting to show a U.S. soldier being shot. But the dark and grainy tape showed only the back of the victim's head and not the execution.

I await the Army's statement, and am thankful to see that Matt Maupin can now be laid to proper rest.

PISSED!

OK, I was just listening to the radio and heard terrorists in Iraq called, "militia men" during the top of the hour news break.

I swear, I'm living in a parallel universe. I must be.

Let's compare.

Militia men:

Terrorists:

Yeah. Big difference, I say.

Pardon Me?

President Bush has pardoned and commuted the sentences of a bunch of thieves and liars.

• William L. Baker of Spokane, Wash., who was sentenced in 1980 to two years prison for falsifying records.

• George Francis Bauckham of Oak Ridge, N.J., who received five years probation in 1958 for the unlawfully detention or delay of the mail by a postal employee.

• Kenneth Charles Britt of White City, Kan., who was sentenced to three years probation in 1998 for conspiracy to violate fish and wildlife laws.

• William Bruce Butt of London, Ky., who received three years probation in 1990 for bank embezzlement.

• Mariano Garza Caballero of Brownsville, Texas, who was sentenced in 1984 to 34 days in prison and four years probation for dealing in firearms without a license.

• Anthony C. Foglio of Santee, Calif., who was sentenced to three years probation in 1996 for distributing marijuana. He is also known as Tony Foley.

• Marvin Robert Foster of Boca Raton, Fla., who was sentenced to a year of probation in 1968 for making a false statement in connection with a Federal Housing Administration loan.

• Carl Harry Hachmeister of Denton, Texas, who was sentenced to three years probation in 1985 for conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud.

• William Marcus McDonald of Wetumpka, Ala., who was sentenced two four years confinement with hard labor by an Air Force court-martial in 1984 for cocaine and marijuana charges. His pay was docked, his rank was reduced and he was given a discharge for bad conduct.

• Robert Michael Milroy of Cinnaminson, N.J., who was sentenced to 7 1/2 years prison in 1975 for heroin importation.

• Jerry Lynn Moldenhauer and Thomas Donald Moldenhauer of Colorado Springs, Colo., who each received three years probation in 1994 for selling migratory bird parts in violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

• Richard James Putney of Woodbridge, Va., who received one year of probation in 1996 for aiding and abetting the escape of a prisoner.

• Timothy Alfred Thone of Woodbury, Minn., who was sentenced in 1987 to two years probation for making a false statement to the Department of Housing and Urban Development to obtain a mortgage.

• Lonnie Edward Two Eagle Sr. of Parmelee, S.D., who was sentenced to two years probation in 1976 for misdemeanor simple assault on an Indian reservation.

Bush also commuted the sentence of Patricia Beckford of Portsmouth, Va., who since 1992 has been serving a 23-year prison sentence for conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine. Bush left intact a five-year term of probation.

Did I miss Ramos and Compean on that list? Or are a bunch of embezzlers and coke heads more important than the men that try to keep our border safe despite corruption and incompetence on the highest levels?

I guess we dare not piss off Mexico.

McCain Sings Streisand

As you all know, I'm not a huge fan of McCain. He is barely better than the other choices on the menu of candidates.

But McCain poking at Babs?

OK, that a check in the plus side...

Another Clintonian "Slip of the Tongue?"

How can you tell when Hillary is lying?

You guessed it.

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign said she "misspoke" last week when she said she had landed under sniper fire during a trip she took as first lady to Bosnia in March 1996. The Obama campaign suggested it was a deliberate exaggeration on Clinton's part.

Clinton often cites the goodwill trip she took with her daughter and several celebrities as a part of her foreign policy experience.

During a speech last Monday about Iraq, she said of the trip: "I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base." [...] The written account in Clinton's book contradicts the comments she made last Monday about the welcoming ceremony.

Just after her speech last Monday, she reaffirmed the account of running from the plane to the cars when she was asked about it by reporters at a news conference. She said was moved into the cockpit of the C-17 cargo plane as they were flying into Tuzla Air Base.

"Everyone else was told to sit on their bulletproof vests," Clinton told reporters. "And we came in, in an evasive maneuver. ... There was no greeting ceremony, and we basically were told to run to our cars. Now, that is what happened."

The Obama campaign statement also links to a CBS news video taken from her Bosnia trip and posted on YouTube, which shows Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, walking across the tarmac from a large cargo plane, smiling and waving, and stopping to shake hands with Bosnia's acting president and greet an 8-year-old girl.

"This is something that the Obama campaign wants to push cause they have nothing positive to say about their candidate," Wolfson said Monday in the conference call.

Or it could be that Obama wants to direct attention away from his relationship with an insane preacher and move that heat back to Hillary.

Either way, I like watching Hillary twist. Heh.

Here is the YouTube video of Hillary dodging bullets. LOL!

Of course, the Clintons are such practiced liars that she may actually believe her yarns...

I'm Mad as Hell!

It seems history just keeps repeating itself, so here's an oldie that's spot-on for today:

Happy Easter!

I was wondering what kind of post to have for Easter; so many other bloggers have done such a better and more eloquent job than I could hope to do.

So here it is: Happy Easter, and thank you Jesus!

That is all.

Young Love...

Right. Isn't Sharia law just fantastic?

An 11-year-old boy has married his 10-year-old cousin in the ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Mohammed al-Rashidi and his unidentified cousin will seal the marriage they contracted under the sharia laws of Islam and move in together after a ceremony to take place in the summer, Al-Shamsnewspaper reports today.

"I am ready for this marriage. It will help me study better," Mohammed, who goes to primary school in the northern province of Hail, was quoted by Al-Shams as saying.

"I invite all my classmates to do like me," the boy said, adding that he wanted to "crown a love story through marriage".

The schoolboy's father, Muraizak al-Rashidi, told the newspaper he was busy sending out invitations for a summer celebration to seal the marriage.

Dahim al-Jaber, the headmaster at Mohammed's school, said marriage at such a young age was "inappropriate" but wished the couple a happy life together.

This is just sick. Cousins marrying before they even hit puberty, and it is totally condoned!

But we really shouldn't be surprised by the lack of regard by Islamists for their children. Just this week Osama bin Laden told the world that the reprinting of the Mo' toons by a Danish paper is more serious an offense than the killing of women and children.

That's right. According to OBL, this is worse than this, or this.

Tell me Islam isn't a cult!

Oh, and another happy note from Islam and our buddies in Saudi:

On Good Friday, Saudis have told the Vatican that there will be no churches in Saudi Arabia unless the Pope recognizes Mohammad.

Let's just imagine the outcry if the Pope told Muslims on the outset of Ramadan that there would be no Mosques in Italy unless the majorities of mullahs recognize that Jesus Christ is the Lord.

Yeah... That would go over well.

Open Foot, Insert Mouth...

...Or, Don't be a flip-flopper!

Check out this video of Obama's reaction to the Don Imus "nappy-headed hos" comment.

The most telling is, after asked if he thought Imus should be fired completely from MSN, Obama says, "Ultimately, you guys are gonna have to make that view; he would not be working for me."

So let me get this straight Barak...(And for the record, I'm not saying what Imus said was at all OK.) "Nappy-headed hos" is "incredibly offensive" and worthy of immediate termination, but this stuff is cool for you to sit through and nod at for twenty years.

Obama, that Grandma who raised you and whom you threw under the bus yesterday must be spinning in her grave.

Second Amendment Case Hits the Supreme Court

Let the arguments begin.

The Supreme Court is set to begin hearing arguments on the D.C. gun ban today.

According to the ban, a citizen may not own a handgun at all, and may only have a rifle or shotgun if it is unloaded, dismantled and/or locked.

Yeah. That's helpful. I'm sure the guy attacking my family will wait patiently while I reassemble and load my gun.

Frankly, I find it fascinating that the authorities claim they don't want guns to cut down on crime. D.C. is one of the most crime-ridden cities in the U.S., so that clearly hasn't worked.

I believe the truth lies more in the politician's fear that We The People might take Thomas
 Jefferson's advice:

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

DC city council argues than the ban is justified because "handguns have no legitimate use in the purely urban environment of the District of Columbia".

I would argue that the "purely urban environment" of D.C. makes a handgun even MORE of a necessity...

But most importantly, who do these petty dictators think they are to tell ME what I need or don't need to protect my family?!?

Our founders outlined this right, which We The People received from God:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not
be infringed.

Notice the comma separating the right of the People to keep a militia and the right of the People to bear arms?

This is where those leftists who argue that guns are only for militias get into trouble. Do they think those hack framers managed to screw up the punctuation here but nowhere else?

Did the founders mean this:

I think not.

The bottom line is, at best these gun bans come from nanny, Code Pink, hippie types who think that if we just all hold hands and "give peace a chance," somehow all the predators out there will loose their will to attack.

At worst, it is the power-hungry politicians who want to regulate every aspect of our lives, make us dependent on them and fear our ability to defend our homes from them. Only by making us helpless will they be able to run amok unchallenged.

Let's pray that the Supreme Court does not set a precedent for that scenario!

It's St. Paddy's Day...

... What kind of beer are you?

You Are Guinness
You know beer well, and you'll only drink the best beers in the world.
Watered down beers disgust you, as do the people who drink them.
When you drink, you tend to become a bit of a know it all - especially about subjects you don't know well.
But your friends tolerate your drunken ways, because you introduce them to the best beers around.

Feelin' The Hate

This hateful racist is Obama's pastor of twenty years. The part about not being reduced to bigotry is just dumbfounding.

This clip doesn't even include the part about how "Bill did them the same way Bill was riding Monica."

He said that at the pulpit.

He also went on to rant about how we are oppressing the poor Palestinians in a wonderfully anti-Semitic load of bullshit.

I tell you, I'd be running out of that 'church' for fear the very ground would open up beneath it.

And Finally, here is the coup de grace:

(Just a thought... Why does this guy still have a tax exempt status?)

Sins 2.0

The Vatican will be releasing a new list of sins for our modern world, just in case God forgot anything, I suppose.

Excerpted from this source, all emphasis mine:

ROME, Italy (AP) -- A Vatican official has listed drugs, pollution and genetic manipulations as well as social and economic injustices as new areas of sinful behavior.

This is new stuff? I'm pretty sure these kinds of things have been going on for centuries. Nice to know the Vatican is so in-touch.

Monsignor Gianfranco Girotti said in an interview published on Sunday by the Vatican's daily newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, that known sins increasingly manifest themselves as behavior that damages society as a whole.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When asked to list the new areas of sinful behavior, Girotti denounced "certain violations of the fundamental rights of human nature through experiments, genetic manipulations."

Some of it, like the animal/human splicing is bad news, sure. But are they cutting into gene therapy?

He also mentioned drugs, which weaken the mind and obscure intelligence; pollution; as well as the widening social and economic differences between the rich and the poor that "cause an unbearable social injustice."

Drugs are new? Since when?

And who the hell is the Catholic Church to start preaching Communism?!? Didn't Christ say that we will always have poor amongst us? I propose that it's what you do to help the poor ON YOUR OWN that makes the difference.

Girotti said the Catholic Church continued to be concerned by other sinful acts, including abortion and pedophilia.
------------------------------------------------------------

Now the Vatican says it is time to modernize the list to fit a global world.

Yeah, because the Word of GOD is so outdated. Morons.

On hearing the Girotti's suggestion, some priests thought it was a good idea.

Father Antonio Pelayo, a Spanish priest and Vatican expert noted that it is time for both sinners and confessors to get over their obsession with sex and think about other ways humans hurt each other in the world in which they live.

"There are many other sins that are perhaps much more grave that don't have anything to do with sex - that have to do with life, that have to do with the environment, that have to do with justice," he told AP Television.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you get that? The Church wants us to be Commie enviro-weenies.

As if the whole rampant pedophilia thing wasn't bad enough.

Another Hero...

...Do you think we'll hear much about her by the doom barons behind the desks of the MSM?

CAMP SALERNO, Afghanistan (AP) — A 19-year-old medic from Texas will become the first woman in Afghanistan and only the second female soldier since World War II to receive the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest medal for valor.

Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers after a roadside bomb tore through a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia province in April 2007, the military said.

"I did not really think about anything except for getting the guys to a safer location and getting them taken care of and getting them out of there," Brown told The Associated Press on Saturday at a U.S. base in the eastern province of Khost.

After the explosion, which wounded five soldiers in her unit, Brown ran through insurgent gunfire and used her body to shield wounded comrades as mortars fell less than 100 yards away, the military said.

Pentagon policy prohibits women from serving in front-line combat roles — in the infantry, armor or artillery, for example. But the nature of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, with no real front lines, has seen women soldiers take part in close-quarters combat more than previous conflicts.

The military said Brown's "bravery, unselfish actions and medical aid rendered under fire saved the lives of her comrades and represents the finest traditions of heroism in combat."

Curiosity Killed The Cat...

...Well, almost anyway.

Last night while a fairly large snowstorm was blowing through, I sat my sewing project down for just a moment to get dinner out of the oven. When I came back, our cat, Jack, was eating the string on my project.

Too bad the needle was still attached.

When he started coughing up foamy blood, Dave and I were sure he'd swallowed the needle. Being the fantastic hubby he is, Dave braved the bad road conditions to take Jack to the 24-hour emergency vet 20 miles away.

The needle lodged sideways in his esophagus facing front to back, and was so close to the skin that the vet was able to pull it out through the front of his neck. Here's the pic:

After an overnight stay, the cat is back and firmly ensconced under the bed.

As I told Cube, one life down, eight to go!

Dead Rats and Operating Rooms

I can't wait until we get this kind of quality, government-provided health-care:

LONDON (Reuters) - A patient was told there was no reason why he couldn't have surgery in a hospital, despite the smell caused by a dead rodent trapped in the building's ceiling.

Andrew Cowper was due to have an operation at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital in Hertfordshire when staff "were made aware of a dead rodent in the single storey unit's roof space", the hospital said in a statement.

The hospital said its experts concluded that the dead animal was outside the operating theatre and posed no risk.

(OK, I used to work in an Obstetrics OR. Those rooms are supposed to be negative-pressure. If the rat was outside of the theatre, there should not have been any smell.)

But "despite being told that the trust's infection control experts had stated that Mr Cowper was not being exposed to an infection risk, he decided not to proceed with the operation," it said.

Cowper, 19, told the Sun newspaper he had waited 11 months for the operation, and the doctor told him he could go ahead despite the stench.

"He said the smell didn't represent a health risk, but I was appalled," Cowper said. "I asked him: 'If you were me, would you have the operation?' He looked at me and said 'no', so I decided there and then I wasn't going to go ahead."

I don't know... With the kind of waiting lists you see with socialized medicine, I think I'd have gone ahead with the operation.

Talking Points

It's nice to see that Obama and the Dems are still taking their talking points from Iran. No matter how crazy the world gets, I always know what I can expect from the left.

All emphasis mine, from this source

BAGHDAD- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday lashed out at the United States during an unprecedented trip to Iraq and demanded that major powers leave the region.

Sounds a lot like the Obamanation, huh?

The hardline Iranian leader also dismissed U.S. allegations that Iran was funding and training extremists in Iraq, a fellow Shiite majority country.

Of course they aren't. Iran would never do anything like that...

Ahmadinejad, the first Iranian president to visit Iraq, said the foreign presence in the Arab country was an "insult to the regional nations and a humiliation."

"We believe that the major powers who have come to the region from thousands of kilometers away should respect the will of nations and leave this region. That's the best service they can offer these nations," Ahmadinejad said after meeting with Iraq's president on the two-day trip.

Yes. That would make it much easier for Dinny to supply terrorists, take over Iraq and continue his nuclear arms program without us over there, looking over his shoulder.

And what does President Bush have to say about this?

Not much. He's busy saving us all from ourselves:

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Saturday urged Congress to pass legislation aimed at ending illegal sales of highly addictive prescription drugs on the Internet, citing a growing number of fatal overdoses.

"Unfortunately, many young Americans do not understand how dangerous abusing medication can be, and in recent years, the number of Americans who have died from prescription drug overdoses has increased," Bush said.

Hey, Prez, news flash: DRUG ADDICTS KNOW THAT THEY ARE ABUSING DRUGS. THEY DON'T CARE; THEY ARE SELFISH.

"The Internet has brought about tremendous benefits for those who cannot easily get to a pharmacy in person," Bush said. "However, it has also created an opportunity for unscrupulous doctors and pharmacists to profit from addiction."

So gawd forbid we punish those who are doing things illegally. Instead, let's create more nanny-state rules that punish us all. People who want to abuse drugs are going to do it regardless of any laws the government creates to prevent it.

After all, we citizen children just couldn't get by without Daddy Gubmit taking care of us all.

Pimp the Vote

Being an Ohioan doesn't leave me with much of a choice at our upcoming primaries this week.

I will of course be voting NO on every levy on the ballot, and will be voting for local officials like Sheriff Jones.

But as for the presidential primary? McCain has apparently sewn up the GOP nomination, so voting for him at this point is "throwing my vote away."

Obama is a full-blown commie "globalist," and frankly, the cult-like obsession most Dems have with him freaks me out.

So what's a girl to do? I say vote for Hillary, and I have been considering it way before Rush mentioned it. Why not screw with the Democrats and have a little fun watching the ensuing chaos?

I just might do it...
